Three Things: People Sketches

In art school we had figure drawing classes, where a model was payed to sit still for three hours and we could draw them. I don't take those classes any more. Instead I draw people during church. Here are three sketches I have made of people over the past couple weeks. Unfortunately you can only get a few positions of people when you draw them like this. They are always seated and your usually have either a profile or a back-of-the-head view. But it is still better than no practice at all!

1. I did this drawing in felt-tipped black Sharpie. My favourite part about drawing these ladies was their hair. I was drawn to the different ways it curled and draped. It is actually a grandmother and granddaughter from my church. 

2. This is a father with his young son asleep on his lap. When my friend saw it he called it "Rasputin and Child". I don't know what that means, but I thought it was funny. i think he may have been struck by the contrast of the overworked style I used for the man's face and the simple lines of the boy. Sheldon thought it was like a Mary Cassatt painting. I will take that compliment! Thank you!

3. This final one is a profile of my friend Jordi. There is not much to say about it.
